Introduction

The General Manager Spain is responsible of the P&L of 2 mills assuring in both mills the same compliance to the Group operations policy and budget, creating synergies and maximising efficiency in terms of H&S, environment, mill personnel, product & quality, machinery efficiency, maintenance and in general all related activities in the 2 mills. In charge of supporting the Group in the integration of the newly acquired Board Mill driving the different worksteams. He / she represents the company and the Group locally.

Organization

Our client is the second largest European producer of coated recycled cartonboard. They have 9 integrated board mills and two converting plants in Europe.

In Spain they own two board mills in the Catalonia region were coated cartonboard is produced and converted into packaging solutions.

Function

  • The Operations General Manager is responsible for the P&L (profit and loss) performance of the mill, including health and safety, environment, mill personnel, product and quality, machine efficiency, maintenance and generally all related activities in the mill, in accordance with the agreed budget.
  • Represent the Company and the mill and the Group at local level;
  • Propose the strategy for the mill to achieve the budget and the medium to long term business plan;
  • Manage all site production activities in accordance with approved budgets (time, yields, quality, quantity) and ensure achievement within the approved budget and plan;
  • Manage the activities of the plant with the collaboration of the technical and administrative staff in place with the assistance of any consultants assigned and be accountable for the choices made and control the work accomplished;
  • Manage the general, auxiliary, administrative and technical control services of the products
  • Ensuring the establishment and/or renewal of the company’s EWC in accordance with the periodicity and procedures imposed by the Labour Code;
  • Sharing the EWC and ensuring that its powers and prerogatives are respected.
  • Keep external contacts with suppliers, customers, communities, in accordance with RDM Group purpose and values.
  • Lead the mills workforce via a management team to achieve EBITDA targets;
  • Set reliable and ambitious targets by engaging functional people and pushing them to achieve results;
  • Ensure the safe and efficient production of the highest quality product at the lowest cost through the commitment of employees and the development and implementation of systems, training and development of all staff.
  • Follow the company’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, applicable to the position’s areas of responsibility, to achieve and maintain safety, quality and regulatory compliance requirements for all grades of paper.
  • Contribute to the Group’s results by maximising its business opportunities;
  • Champion the continuous improvement process using key continuous improvement tools as well as other improvement tools to ensure technical performance of machines, improve energy management, Health, Safety and Environment, quality management, cost and profit optimisation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in engineering or proven solid experience
  • At least 10 years of management experience within a manufacturing site, in the manufacturing industry, preferably in paper or packaging industry
  • Experience with integration projects is a big plus
  • Strong management and courage
  • People manager 
  • Project management experience
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Fluent in English
